We use the American Livestock Breeds
Conservancy (ALBC) Conservation Priority List as a guide when we obtain breeds of stock. Naturally, we try to
get the breeds that are listed as "Critical", but are also a good dual purpose breed. We have also focused
on breeds that have done well in the Pacific Northwest climate.
During the summer of 2009, we drastically reduced the poultry flocks
due to the economy. We have kept 19 of the 40 breeds, keeping those that are the most difficult to obtain or replace.
Most of the very rare breeds were obtained from private breeders. The size of the flocks had also been reduced to allow
us to have this number of breeds and not break the bank to pay for feed. Our current listing of breeds:
