There are two ways the term "Heritage Breed" is used.

Heritage Breed can be referring to an old, traditional, original breed that was used in the development of a different breed through its crossbreeding.

Heritage Breed is also used as a term to describe a breed that requires no artificial insemination for reproduction.  They are fully capable of reproducing on their own, without human intervention other than selective breeding.
